Contemporanea
Film Festival

Contemporanea is a film festival devoted to women’s voices in cinema and the visual arts. Each edition is conceived as a space for encounter, where filmmakers and audiences come together to share perspectives, question narratives, and explore new ways of seeing. Over the course of five days, the festival unfolds through a vibrant program of screenings, conversations, and masterclasses featuring artists from around the world. At its core, the 2025 international competition, chaired by director Laura Luchetti, shines a light on emerging filmmakers, while retrospectives and tributes bring renewed attention to the women who have shaped the history of cinema. The fourth edition opens with a tribute to Anna Magnani, a defining figure whose work continues to resonate across generations. Monica Guerritore will inaugurate the festival with her film Anna, while Olivia Magnani offers an intimate portrait that traces the actress’s legacy through a deeply personal lens. Alongside this homage, the program presents a rich constellation of contemporary voices: Adele Tulli reflects on life in the digital age; Claire Simon captures the complexities of adolescence in French high schools; and Amanda Kim, at the Castello di Rivoli, retraces the origins of video art through her portrait of Nam June Paik. Their work is presented in dialogue with films by Jessica Woodworth, Federica Pontremoli, Anna Negri, Yvonne Sciò, and Marie-Elsa Sgualdo, creating a conversation across generations, geographies, and cinematic forms. Contemporanea is an evolving platform that bridges past and present, inviting audiences to engage with cinema as a vital tool for understanding, questioning, and reimagining the world today.

Contemporanea proudly adheres to the Code of Ethical Conduct of Women in Film, Television & Media.
